Joint Cycle #2: Sign-Ups

Hi everyone!

Welcome to Joint Cycle #2 hosted by me, Alex! This Cycle is joint between my club .boookay. and between SMW.

Last time a lot of folks signed up for the previous cycle, so I decided that it would be a great idea to include the pre-cycle task in the sign-ups!

You can find all the information regarding the number of participants, how elimination will work, how the poll will be used, feedback, and other things that will be important for the cycle at this link here. Please DO read this. It is about a page long but will answer most questions that may come up!

As of right now, the prizes stand the same as last time: 1st - 500SD, 2nd - 300SD, and 3rd - 200SD. Prize amounts may increase and placements may be added depending on the number of participants that are left at the end of this Cycle!

For the sign-ups, you must answer the following questions as well as complete the following task:

  1. Username
  2. Have you competed in a cycle before?
  3. What brand would you like to see this tribute season?
  4. Why do you want to be apart of this Cycle?
  5. Based on the rules (linked above), is there anything you would like to be changed or added?

Pre-Cycle Task: Supersize Me

One trend that I truly love irl is the oversized trend. Some days you can catch me in a comfy oversized T and a pair of skinny jeans. Like any trend, this is a trend that goes in and out of style. On Stardoll there are some good oversized pieces that can be used from tops, to coats, to pants there are a lot of options!

For this task, you must use at least one piece that is oversized on your doll. You can get creative about the piece you use! We definitely want to see you step outside of the box!

The sign-ups will remain open for a week where then 20 people will be chosen to start the Cycle. Each person will be judged on a scale of 1 to 10 and no feedback will be given for THIS task.

This task will close Saturday, June 6th at 11:59PM EST.

July 2019 HotBuys Ad

Stardoll has just released the ad for the July HotBuys. Seeing how July is my favorite month I did not expect such items. I'm disappointed. So far I only seem to like the corset top, corset dress & the Fendi bag.
Though I am still skeptical about buying them.

And here is today's weekly Superstar Gift. It's the lamp from Pretty n' Love Decor.
(thanks giniaparks for the photo)

I like it a lot since I always wanted to buy it but now I don't need to.
It looks much better than last weeks gift.

What do you think about the July HotBuys? Will you be buying anything? Do you like the weekly gift?
If so, post in the comments if you've already put it anywhere in your suite and show us your opinions about the HotBuys.

New Museum Mile + COMP/GIVEAWAY (WINNERS ANNOUNCED)

So it looks like Tribute season has started; again with Museum Mile.  I wonder if this is going to be a new trend? If you remember our last Tribute season started with Museum Mile Givenchy. What do y'all think of this release? Will you be buying anything? I have my eye on a few pieces, but I haven't decided yet. I usually wait till almost everything comes out for Tribute season and then decide. I definitely will be getting the background though! The Louvre!

Interview with vev

Last week's Featured Chat Member was vev!! This outfit was absolutely stunning and so inventive, I just had to nominate it! You can visit her here and her interview is down below!

What would you like us to call you?
You can call me Viviane or Vev.

Where are you from?
Kosovo

What do you look like irl?
I'm quite pale. I have green/hazel eye and long brown wavy/curly hair.

What does your style irl look like? How does it compare to your SD style?
I have always been told that the way I dress in real life is interesting to look at. I'm not sure why that is but the most accurate word to describe my style would be edgy. I wear mostly leggings, black colors, heels, long jackets, leather, etc. On Stardoll, I usually dress my doll different than my style in real life. There I like to use more colors and do not always dress in black.

Who are your favorite designers?
Titania Inglis, Barbara I Gongini, Alexander Wang, Yohji Yamamoto and Vivenne Westwood.

What languages do you speak/study?
I speak fluent Albanian (my native language), English and I studied French while in high school so I know how to speak it a little bit.

What are your top 5 favorite foods?
Salad, seafood, salmon, pizza and ice cream.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
I love to hang out with my mom and sister. If that doesn't work, I like to watch tv series, explore different music genres or spend time reading Episode stories.

What are you interested in learning?
I would love to learn Icelandic. Overall, just anything that has to do with different cultures. Another thing that I really want to learn is how to cook since I can't really do anything, when I try to, I end up burning food or it turns out tasteless. Also, I would totally love to learn how to do parkour, I am obsessed and I even dream of doing crazy stuff like in the movies. Though I'd probably end up killing myself in real life. lol

Where are your top 5 travel destination you most want to go to?
Iceland, Croatia, China, Italy and the United Kingdom

If you could time travel, where/when would you go?
I would love nothing more than to time travel. It's been a few years now and it might sound lame, but I would love to see my predecessors, the Illyrians. I have always been fascinated whenever we learnt about our origin when we had history at school. I'd love to see how they used to be like. I would also love to time travel to the times when Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn were still alive so I could meet them and go back to the 80s and 90s.

What are your favorite tv shows/movies/books?
My favorite tv show at the moment is called: "Possessed." My favorite book is: "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne. I also love to read Episode stories and my favorites right now are: "It's just an Illusion Series," "The Otherworld," "The Dragon Bride," "Boyfriend For Hire," "Living With The Vampire Brothers," "Mindreader" & "Flashback Friday."

What types of art do you enjoy doing or appreciating?
Just like my major, I like to appreciate interior design and decor. I also (used to) love appreciating digital art, but since a few years I have given up on that path. I would like to start over and get back to drawing, but I'm just not as inspired as I used to be before.

Do you like to be outdoors or indoors more?
I like to be indoors, but also outdoors as long as I am with my family or just in the presence of someone whom I feel comfortable with.

What is your favorite memory?
My favorite memory is being a kid and spending time playing with my siblings and going out as a whole with my family more often.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A ballerina, a cashier and a celebrity/singer.

If you had to describe yourself using three words, what would they be?
Loyal, empathic, serious.

If you could be any Disney character, who would you be?
I would be Princess Arista, Ariel's sister. I have always loved her personality and her hairstyle. I think we're quite alike.

If you were going to bury a time capsule, what would you put in it?
My photo album, a few of my precious jewelry and my drawing tablet.

Who makes you laugh the most?
That would be my sister. She's quite funny.

How do you relax after a long day?
Before going to sleep, I go on Episode and read my favorite stories. It's become routine for some time now and I love reading after a long day. It always makes me happy.

What is the best piece of life advice you could give?
You were brought on Earth for a reason. Your life has a purpose. Live it. Enjoy it. And most importantly love God. He loves you.

New Callie's Picks-Lady Lovelace

Hi guys! Today SD launched a new Callie's Picks. They continued their historical figure theme from last CP and chose Lady Lovelace. Her doll is from the era when Stardoll had a lot of "Role Model" dolls with suites on the site. You can still visit her here. I'm friends with her. lol
The store has been glitching all day and you can't see the whole thing, just this window that you can't click. But the items are available in catalog, except for the Lady Lovelace doll.
Update: It's finally been fixed!
Ada Lovelace was born in 1815 in London, the daughter of the poet Lord Byron. Her mother separated from her father when she was one and was insistent that Ada not become a poet. She raised her as a single mother and taught her math and science, but Ada always kept an artistic sensibility. In the 1830s and 40s, she was introduced to the works of Charles Babbage, an English polymath, and she began a correspondence with him. Babbage developed a calculating engine, but it was Ada that suggested it could be used in different practical applications like generating graphics and music. This is now regarded as the first "computer program."
What do y'all think of this collection? Are you buying anything? Do you like that Callie's is doing this whole doll thing? This collection fits a lot better than the Beatrix Potter one. I personally really love this collection. I want most of the dresses and head pieces. And I'm going to add Ada to my Hall of Portraits.

Post an outfit within 24 hours for you chance to win an item from the release!

Interview with LemonChiffon

LemonChiffon is a long time SMW member. She has an avant-garde flair to her outfits that always inspires me. Her featured look was simply stunning.

What is your name/what would you like us to call you?
A: My real name is Keshia, my friends call me Key or Kiwi. People can call me whatever they feel comfortable with, usually people just shorten my username.

Where are you from? What languages do you speak?
A: I was born in the U.S., but I was raised in Mexico, which means I speak Spanish fluently.

What do you do for a living?
A: I am a Curator at a contemporary art museum.

How did you come to the decision to pursue your current career?
A: I've always been in love with the arts and museums since I was very young. My first visit to the Met cemented I wanted to work somewhere similar, though it took me a really long time to figure out the path I wanted to take to get there. It also took me a while to stand firm that that's what I wanted to do because my parents were worried I wouldn't be able to find a job getting an arts degree. I started off with antiquities, and I was positive that was where my career path was headed, particularly when I went to live in Italy for a while to complete a field school in art restoration. It wasn't until I happened to intern at a contemporary art museum (my last choice lol) that I truly fell in love with the idea of not only working with contemporary art but with living artists. There is something so magical about being a part of someone's passion and sharing that conversation with a community of people. Particularly because so many artists are activists, trying to make a difference in the world. So, in case it wasn't obvious, I love my job even if it means I'm hardly ever home because it's so crazy haha.

How long have you been on SD? What got you into it?
A: Gosh, I've been on SD for a while, I think I might have joined in 2008? I've played on and off since then. I don't even think I remember what got me into it.

Who are your favorite fashion designers? Recent collections?
A: Alexander McQueen, Iris Van Herpen, Guo Pei and Pierpaolo Piccioli are a few of my favorites. Which means obviously Valentino's latest collections have caught my eye, particularly Spring/Summer 2019.

How would you describe your SD style and your irl style?
A: Colorful. I think my SD style is way more edgy than my real life style. I love color, I love trying new things in all aspects of my life which means I do like to try current trends (even if I keep my closet full of classic staples because who doesn't? haha), and I try to experiment even if I'm not quite as adventurous as my SD style. I think I'm a good mix of classic contemporary.

What inspires you to create your looks?
A: Other dolls! I get so inspired by everyone else's creativity. It pushes me to try new thing, new ways of using and layering items I never would have tried on my own. Everyone is so brilliant at putting together looks I think it breeds some awesome creativity.

Do you enjoy other forms of design or art?
A: As my job suggests, yes very much so lol I've always been in love with art from pre-historic cave paintings to the latest work from someone like Marina Abromavic. I think fashion, design, music and art all fall under this similar umbrella for me that really feeds my soul.

Is there anything you wish would come back into fashion?
A: Hats, gloves, parasols...fun accessory type items like that I think would be awesome if they were more prevalent in fashion. I love old Hollywood glamour and I really wish we could go back to some of that type of elegance in fashion. Think Rita Hayworth, Lauren Bacall, Joan Crawford, Liz Taylor, Bette Davis, Marlene Dietrich...I could go on forever.

Do you like to read? What books are your favorite?
A: I LOVE to read. My mom and I actually participate in the GoodRead challenge every year, and try to read around 100 books a year. I get it from my mom for sure, she's also a book nut. I don't even know if I could pick a favorite I love a good mystery so Agatha Christie has been a favorite since I was about fifteen and stealing my mom's books haha. I love sci-fi and fantasy (obviously harry Potter was huge to me), romance (I'm a sucker for a trashy romance I admit it lol)...I'm certainly not picky when it comes to genre, though I am picky when it comes to the style of writing authors.

Do you have any fandoms you are a part of?
A: I think most people know I'm a massive ARMY lol. I've been a fan of BTS since they debuted way back in 2013. Probably TMI, but when I first found them I was going through a really tough time mentally and struggling quite heavily with depression and self-harm. I didn't know what direction I wanted to take and was kind of drifting. Their music and their lyrics really touched me, particularly a song of theirs called Tomorrow. Crazy story, but they're actually the reason I left a more "secure" major and decided definitively to try my luck in the arts against my parent's wishes. haha. A lot of people don't get it, which is totally cool, but they've formed a huge part of my life and I will be forever grateful I found them when I did. They've really been such a massively positive influence on my life.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
A: Read, hands down, but I also really love to write. I'm hoping I'll be able to publish my own book someday.

What is something about you that would surprise people?
A: I feel like I'm a pretty open book lol. I don't know what would be surprising...maybe that I struggled for so long with depression and self-harm. I'm a pretty up-beat positive person, so I think it surprises people who didn't know me then. People get curious because they can see the scars on my arms, and I like to be really open about it. I think it's important to raise awareness, and to know there's no shame in it. Just want to put it out there that because I have no problem talking about it. If anyone is going through a hard time and needs someone to talk to, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Do you like to travel? What are some of your dream travel destinations?
A: I love to travel! I'd love to go to Thailand, India, Africa, Korea...so many, many places.

What are your favorite food? What are some foods you hate?
A: Um...I love food. Period. My favorite cuisine is probably Indian, though if I'm honest, I really love all Asian cuisine I've tried. Thai, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese are also massive favorites. I also love Mexican because I grew up with it. My mom is the best cook ever haha. I'm not picky at all so I have very few foods I hate, off the top of my head I'd say papaya.

What kinds of music do you listen to?
A: All kinds, everything from metal to classical, which might seem crazy to some people. I try not to limit myself. I'm open to new experiences and new things, and if I like something I like something. I tend to "curate" my music through songs, rather than specific artists or genres. I'm moved by songs that speak to me, or that I relate to or have related to at some point in my life. I love a good BOP though, haha.

Do you like to cook?
A: No! I can cook, but I don't enjoy it.

Do you like makeup? What are your favorite makeup brands?
A: Obsessed. ABH, Too Faced, KVD, Melt, Urban Decay, Bite, Colourpop...the list is endless.

If you could go back in time to any point in history, where would you go?
A: Quite honestly I don't know if I would lol it sounds romantic, but the reality of most of history is not pretty. If anything it would be to solve a mystery. I'd love to meet some of the most powerful and badass women in history to hear thei version of events, like Hatshepsut or Cleopatra, Frida Kahlo, Ida B Wells, Harriet Tubman, Sappho, Maud Stevens Wagner, Boadicea, Marie Antoinette, etc, etc.

If you were the ruler of your own country, what would be the first law you introduce?
A: Equal rights on every level, to every citizen. Sever animal protection laws.

If a movie was being made about your life, who would you choose to star?
A: Hm. Maybe Zoe Saldana or Keke Palmer...

Thank you so much for the interview!

Interview with armaniala (Anna)

Anna was one of our featured chat members. She co-featured with LemonChiffon with a super cute look using some of the latest SubCouture collection.

Q: What languages do you speak?

A: I speak French, English, Spanish and a bit of Italian and Hebrew.

Q: What do you do for a living?

A: I'm studying design and decoration to become an interior designer?

Q: Where is your favorite place to go to relax?

A: I love to go for a walk near Lake Geneva, that's so soothing.

Q: What are your top 5 travel destinations you would love to visit?

A: I would love to visit Vietnam, Norway, Canada, Burma and Iran.

Q: What are your 5 favorite foods?

A: I love world cuisine (I used to travel a lot so I could try so much food), and I really like Middle Eastern food, such as falafels, tabouleh, but also some African dishes such as bunny chaw. I also love pastas in every recipe. And I love fruits ;)

Q: Do you like to cook and what is one dish you do well?

A: I don't really like it (and I'm clearly not a chef), but it does relax me and I love to prepare a tabouleh, that is the only food I do well.

Q: Are you a creative person? What do you like to do to express your creativity?

A: I think I can be described as a creative girl. I love to express my thoughts about everything. I think I'm really creative in my looks and how I decorated my room.

Q: What is your style like irl?

A: I don't have a defined style, I love to play with my wardrobe, but I really like feminine pieces, and bold colours and heels!!

Q: What is your favorite movie to watch over and over?

A: I'm not really a film person, but I do love to watch "The Devil Wears Prada," the film for every self-respecting fashionista.

Q: Is there any tv show that is your absolute favorite?

A: Fashion shows ;)

Q: What is one thing that never fails to improve your mood?

A: If I'm not very good, offer to go shopping with me and you'll be sure my moroseness will disappear.

Q: How does your room irl look?

A: Walls are white and pale mint green, with white fake fur headboard and rugs. I have large windows on 3 walls with a view over the lake, where I just put net curtains, and a pale grey sofa in front of them. Then I accessorized with silver and pale pink decorations, such as statues, candles or paintings. And I always buy a fresh bouquet to add a flowery smell.

Q: What is one thing that you love to buy a lot of?

A: I would have said shoes, but when I looked at my dressing room I can say everything about clothing: shoes, bags, clothes, jewelry...:)

Q: Do you like makeup? What are your favorite products or brands?

A: I love makeup and especially eyeshadows, you can play more with it. My favorite brands are Anastasia Beverly Hills, Mac and Laura Mercier, but I also love to use Dior makeup, their colours are so intense.

Q: Are you close with your family or are your friends your family?

A: I believe both. I'm very close with my parents as I'm their only child, but my friends are very precious and close to me too, maybe for the same reason.

Q: What is the best piece of life advice you have?

A: I believe in Mandela's quote, "I never lose, I either win or learn," it's really helpful to remind you when you face a difficulty.

Q: What is your favorite scent?

A: Talking about perfume, I love Chanel No. 5, it's my mother and grandma's perfume, so it's very fortifying to me. Then, as I said before, I love the scent of flowers and it always gives a fresh smell.

Q: Who do you trust the most?

A: Myself, the intuition is always something to follow. And even if it's for a mistake, it will construct your opinions and character.

Q: Is there anyone you look up to or admire?

A: My parents, they're such a model for me. They're always like friends, they look beautiful, they work hard in what they love, they live for what they believe and I'm proud of being their child.

Q: How many pairs of shoes do you own? lol

A: Haha...Actually I have 75 ;)

Q: What song best sums you up?

A: "Love Today" from Mika, so pop and inspiring.

Thank you so much Anna for the interview!
