Tribute #3: Balenciaga-Competition (Closed)

This collection was so confusing to me. They reused a background concept. There's as many male outfits as female outfits almost. The pieces are loud. The graphics are hit or miss within the collection. I just don't know...
What do you think?
Are you buying anything? Do you think they could have done a better job?

Competition:
-Style a MAIN CLOTHING item from this collection
-MAIN CLOTHING ITEM=TOP, BOTTOM, JACKET as a visible part of your outfit
-If you resize an accessory to be a main clothing item, that may be counted
-IF YOU ARE UNCLEAR ABOUT THE RULES, ASK A QUESTION BELOW OR MESSAGE ME ON SD because I don't always get notifications
-List the name of the item/items you used
-Do not crop your outfit, show the entire outfit in the picture
-AND SHOW US A PIC OF A BALENCIAGA ITEM YOU WOULD LIKE IN THIS COLLECTION
-Can be made in Plaza
-Please include your username
-Will be open for 10 days

Pop Shop

Merry Christmas, everyone!

So, for the Christmas release we got the (by now) customary New Year's edition of Pop Shop. I must say that I really like the blazer and the interior (it looks like a magical portal to a different place and time).

The prices range from 4 to 22 SD (before the discount); there are three SC items (strawberries in a glass, chocolate covered strawberries and year hour glass).

What do you think? Will you buy anything? Share in the comments below.

xoxo, Anja

Tribute #2: Rick Owens-COMPETITION (closed)

So we've got our next tribute on a Monday. This schedule is all over the place. lol.
Rick Owens was an unexpected brand for SD to go with. I know some people are fans, but are disappointed in the choices for this collection. They also brought back this whole top up for one item strategy again. And it's not even a cute item...

What do you think?
Are you excited about this collection?
Will you be buying anything?
What have you though about the graphics of the tributes so far?
None of them have felt 'tribute worthy' to me.

-Style a MAIN CLOTHING item from this collection

December

Hello, everyone!

First of all, I owe you all a HUGE apology for posting this halfway into the month. I guess, real life just got better of me this time around (I started with a new job at the beginning of this month, and the rest of it was mostly adjustment period) ... But I finally found enough time (and energy, because the first week was brutal) to do it right ;)
It's December - the final month of the year. Are you excited? What are your plans? Share in the comments below!

December is the twelfth or final month of the year. The name comes from the Latin word decem (meaning ten) as it was the tenth month of the year before the addition of January and February.
December contains the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, the day with the fewest daylight hours, and the summer solstice in the Southern Hemisphere, the day with the most daylight hours (excluding polar regions in both cases). December in the Northern Hemisphere is the seasonal equivalent to June in the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa. In the Northern hemisphere, the beginning of the astronomical winter is traditionally 21 December or the date of the solstice.

December's birth flower is the narcissus.
December's birthstones are the turquoise, zircon, and tanzanite.
The zodiac signs for December are Sagittarius (until December 21) and Capricorn (December 22 onwards).

Narcissus is a genus of predominantly spring perennial plants of the amaryllis family, Amaryllidaceae. Various common names including daffodil, daffadowndilly, narcissus and jonquil are used to describe all or some members of the genus. Narcissus has conspicuous flowers with six petal-like tepals surmounted by a cup- or trumpet-shaped corona. The flowers are generally white or yellow (also orange or pink in garden varieties), with either uniform or contrasting coloured tepals and corona.

Narcissus were well known in ancient civilisation, both medicinally and botanically, but formally described by Linnaeus in his Species Plantarum (1753). The genus is generally considered to have about ten sections with approximately 50 species. The number of species has varied, depending on how they are classified, due to the similarity between species and hybridisation. The genus arose some time in the Late Oligocene to Early Miocene epochs, in the Iberian peninsula and adjacent areas of southwest Europe. The exact origin of the name Narcissus is unknown, but it is often linked to a Greek word for intoxicated (narcotic) and the myth of the youth of that name who fell in love with his own reflection. The English word "daffodil" appears to be derived from "asphodel", with which it was commonly compared.

Historical accounts suggest narcissi have been cultivated from the earliest times but became increasingly popular in Europe after the 16th century and by the late 19th century were an important commercial crop centred primarily in the Netherlands. Today narcissi are popular as cut flowers and as ornamental plants in private and public gardens. The long history of breeding has resulted in thousands of different cultivars. For horticultural purposes, narcissi are classified into divisions, covering a wide range of shapes and colours. Like other members of their family, narcissi produce several different alkaloids, which provide some protection for the plant, but may be poisonous if accidentally ingested.

Turquoise is an opaque, blue-to-green mineral that is a hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminium, with the chemical formula CuAl6(PO4)4(OH)8·4H2O. It is rare and valuable in finer grades and has been prized as a gemstone and ornamental stone for thousands of years owing to its unique hue. Like most other opaque gems, turquoise has been devalued by the introduction onto the market of treatments, imitations and synthetics.

The gemstone has been known by many names. Pliny the Elder referred to the mineral as callais (from Ancient Greek κάλαϊς) and the Aztecs knew it as chalchihuitl. The word turquoise dates to the 17th century and is derived from the French turquois meaning "Turkish" because the mineral was first brought to Europe through Turkey, from mines in the historical Khorasan of Persia.

Turquoise was among the first gems to be mined, and many historic sites have been depleted, though some are still worked to this day. These are all small-scale operations, often seasonal owing to the limited scope and remoteness of the deposits. Most are worked by hand with little or no mechanization. However, turquoise is often recovered as a byproduct of large-scale copper mining operations, especially in the United States.

Zircon ( /ˈzɜːrkɒn/ or /ˈzɜːrkən/) is a mineral belonging to the group of nesosilicates. Its chemical name is zirconium silicate, and its corresponding chemical formula is ZrSiO4.The crystal structure of zircon is a tetragonal crystal system. The natural colour of zircon varies between colourless, yellow-golden, red, brown, blue and green. Colourless specimens that show gem quality are a popular substitute for diamond and are also known as "Matura diamond".

The name derives from the Persian zargun, meaning "gold-hued". This word is corrupted into "jargoon", a term applied to light-coloured zircons. The English word "zircon" is derived from Zirkon, which is the German adaptation of this word. Yellow, orange and red zircon is also known as "hyacinth", from the flower hyacinthus, whose name is of Ancient Greek origin.

Zircon has played an important role during the evolution of radiometric dating. Zircons contain trace amounts of uranium and thorium (from 10 ppm up to 1 wt%) and can be dated using several modern analytical techniques. Because zircons can survive geologic processes like erosion, transport, even high-grade metamorphism, they contain a rich and varied record of geological processes. Currently, zircons are typically dated by uranium-lead (U-Pb), fission-track, cathodoluminescence, and U+Th/He techniques. For instance, imaging the cathodoluminescence emission from fast electrons can be used as a prescreening tool for high-resolution secondary-ion-mass spectrometry (SIMS) to image the zonation pattern and identify regions of interest for isotope analysis. This is done using an integrated cathodoluminescence and scanning electron microscope. Zircons in sedimentary rock can identify the sediment source.

Tanzanite is the blue and violet variety of the mineral zoisite (a calcium aluminium hydroxyl sorosilicate), caused by small amounts of vanadium, belonging to the epidote group. Tanzanite is only found in Tanzania, in a very small mining area (approximately 7 km (4.3 mi) long and 2 km (1.2 mi) wide) near the Mirerani Hills.

Tanzanite is noted for its remarkably strong trichroism, appearing alternately blue, violet and burgundy depending on crystal orientation. Tanzanite can also appear differently when viewed under different lighting conditions. The blues appear more evident when subjected to fluorescent light and the violet hues can be seen readily when viewed under incandescent illumination. In its rough state tanzanite is coloured a reddish-brown to clear, and it requires heat treatment to remove the brownish "veil" and bring out the blue-violet of the stone.

The gemstone was given the name 'tanzanite' by Tiffany & Co. after Tanzania, the country in which it was discovered. The scientific name of "blue-violet zoisite" was not thought to be consumer-friendly enough by Tiffany's marketing department, who introduced it to the market in 1968. In 2002, the American Gem Trade Association chose tanzanite as a December birthstone, the first change to their birthstone list since 1912.

Sagittarius (♐) (Greek: Τοξότης Toxotes, Latin: Sagittarius) is the ninth astrological sign, which is associated with the constellation Sagittarius and spans 240–270th degrees of the zodiac. Under the tropical zodiac, the Sun transits this sign between approximately November 23 and December 21. Greek mythology associates Sagittarius with the centaur Chiron, who mentored Achilles, a Greek hero of the Trojan War, in archery. Sagittarius, the half-human and half horse, is the centaur of mythology, the learned healer whose higher intelligence forms a bridge between Earth and Heaven. Also known as the Archer, Sagittarius is represented by the symbol of a bow and arrow.

Along with Aries and Leo, Sagittarius is a part of the Fire Trigon as well as the last of the reproductive trinity. It also follows Gemini and Virgo as third of the mutable signs, which are the signs that feature changeable quality. The symbol of the zodiac sign is a Centaur armed with arrows following an old tradition coming from Ancient Greece and from other cultures of the past. The image of the sign says a lot about his features: he's able to be extremely violent or wise, brave or mild. When Sagittarius is depicted as an archer, then he is classified as human but when represented as a centaur, he is nonhuman (bestial). However, the classification of the astrological sign as a human or bestial does not carry practical consequences for interpretation. As an archer, Sagittarius is said never to fail in hitting the mark and this depiction alludes to the power of prophecy, hence, the claim that seers and prophets are born in this sign.

Can you believe we've come the full circle? I still remember how I wanted to do something different/new this year, so I decided to include traditional Slovenian names for the months (by the way, I still haven't figured out what that novel thing could/should be for 2020, so if you have any ideas, you are welcome to share them) - and here's the last one :)

So, the traditional Slovenian name for December is gruden / gɾudɛn / - so the month when the ground/soil is frozen in clods (clod = 'gruda'; I actually had to look the English word up, as I had no idea how to translate, other than as "a solid lump of soil").

Once again, the phonetic writing is an approximation as I don't have any actual knowledge on the topic, and was done using THIS helpful Wikipedia page.

December 16th: oayes

On Stardoll

There are still a few items inspired by December birthday symbols, but not as many as in the past as Stardoll is slowly removing them from the site ;)

So the items still available is this Sagittarius sundial from Otherworld (available in the catalog).

Have a nice day!
