Chinese New Year

Happy Chinese New Year (新年快乐) to everyone celebrating! 

To celebrate this event, Stardoll made a little quiz game for us.  If you haven't done the quiz, yet, here are the answers to get the small gift, which is a lantern. 

Because of this celebration, I thought it would be great to know more about it. So below are some facts, that could be interesting. I think the more we know about our world, the richer we are.

Chinese New Year is based on lunisolar observations. This year it started with the 8th of February. The period from the 8th till the 15th is called Little Year. From 16th to the 26th is the Spring Festival, when the celebrations officially begin. The third period starts on the 27th and lasts until the 2nd of March. It's called Latern Festival, and symbolizes reunion.

2018 is the Year of the Dog. The legend says, that Jade Emperor decided the order of zodiac animals according to their arrival to his party. Because the Dog was abroad, helping a god to defeat evil spirits, it arrived eleventh, and this is why it became the eleventh zodiac animal.

The most characteristic feauture of a Dog is it's loyalty. They are honest and popular among people. Also, once they decide on something, no one can persuade them against it.

Lucky things for Dogs:

• Colors: green, red, purple
• Numbers: 3, 4, 9
• Mineral: emerald 

Clothing: The qipao entered mainstream Chinese culture during the Qing dynasty. But the modern styles we know today are very different from how it was originally. It began as a conservative dress with straight and loose cuts. Intricate designs were embroidered into the fabric. Through colonization, the qipao became westernized.
