Earlier this week on the 10th September, Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director and head designer of the fashion houses Chanel and Fendi celebrated his 81st birthday. To those who don't know him, he is is a german fashion designer, artist, and photographer based in Paris. Over the decades, he has collaborated on a variety of fashion and art-related projects. He is well recognized around the world for his trademark white hair, black glasses, and high starched collars.
We're dedicating our Theme Day to this mastermind: Karl WHO?!
I've read an article on ELLE this week that Lagerfeld's latest project is to release a brand new newspaper called The Karl Daily, which will showcase the designer’s talents for sketching, wordplay, photography, and winking humor. The interview had some excellent quotes, I'd like to set the mood for the day with these :)
"Huge coffee books must not look like gravestones on a table. Sometimes they are too big, they come in boxes and things like this. No, a book has to be easy to open, and you don’t have to be a bodybuilder to lift it. I like books I can read in bed. Those big tombstones would kill me."
"But you know, the whole thing about me could not have existed 15 or 20 years ago. I am kind of virtual myself. Look, I go nowhere and yet people know me. Who tells you that I am real? I don’t go to parties; you don’t see me on the red carpet very often. I only go to things related to my business."
