This experience with Stardoll has been horrible. I really feel for all of you out there that have gone through this and haven't even gotten this far. It's an emotionally exhausting experience.
I wish as a community, people would listen and band together, but unfortunately that will not be the case until most people have had this terrible experience for themselves.
This is Stardoll's final response to my mother and the BBB.
If you look it makes no sense.
1. Before they told me I accessed a proxy on the day I was hacked. Now it's on Jan 26th.
I never used a PROXY during that time period. I clicked on a link that brought the free hair to my dressing room, but that was at the end of January and I was hacked on Feb 24th. So the hacker waited a whole month to hack me. I don't think so.
2. They finally address the items in my account that were locked, but it's a lie.The items were requested to be locked by my Mother. This was not an automatic thing they did and conveniently they decided to change. If so WHEN because they were still locked less than 2 weeks prior to the hacking and why wouldn't they send me any communication to let me know! Sure for 2 years they have been locked and then out of the blue they decide to release them and BOOM I'm hacked. That's just a little to convenient!
So in short Stardoll is lying.
They saw that we had proxy info on our site (They even said that to the BBB) and that I got the tangled hair a MONTH earlier and used it as an excuse to not return the items. I did forget about the tangled hair, but I didn't use a proxy I just clicked on the link that was provided in I_am_collector's post and got the items in my dressing room. Besides, the hacker didn't just wait a month to hack you and why didn't everyone else who got the rapunzel hair get hacked too. Did I say it was a MONTH BEFORE THE HACKING.Not only that, but this is what my account looks like now...
No money, No SS, No Royalty and 29 less rares..

My mother has contacted an attorney and is serioushly considering filing suit out of principle. We just have to decide if its worth it to us.
I know many of you have been hacked and received no justice from Stardoll. The Attorney mentioned that if others affected banned together you may be able to file a class action law suit. But again that involves people actually banning together.
WHAT I WILL DO NOW:
I still don't know. I'm going to take a step back for a few days and think about it. Talk to my Stardoll friends and RELAX a bit.
I am.... seriously considering leaving Stardoll or at the very least taking myself out of the spotlight. Not run the blog, so I don't get so much attention etc.. I'd still be around just not as well known hopefully ;). Then people shouldn't feel the need to target me all the time. :P
I've been doing this for a long time. Running the blog putting out my own money and I am just tired. Would I have come to this decision if I wasn't hacked? Yes, just not so soon. I was aiming for the end of the year.
I will most likely compromise with myself and hang on til Summer and finish having comps with the money left on my account for fun ;) Wean myself from my addiction instead of ripping off the band aid ;)
I would love to see this blog continue if someone has the resources to maintain it. I just refuse to put that kind of money out for this site anymore and my parents wouldn't allow it anyway.

It's a disgrace they hardly have any case or shame to think so many members have gone through this or would still go through this & they hardly care & are not willing to do any thing about it. They seem to be lying & covering up something & even though I live in the UK I know that direct links were given on blogs for the tangled items. We should stop looking at ourselves & start suspecting them because it's shocking how they're trying to play down the whole thing. And if they have so much problems with proxies & they claim their priority is to protect us then why not make the competitions for all countries.
I don't think you should waste your time about the attorney. A lot of people have been hacked in the past but might not bother coming foward. I hope more people react the way you have when they get hacked because this has gone on for too long. It would be easier to leave the site than bother with stardoll & their attitude. I have a feeling stardoll itself was hacked & this was an inside job because they are trying to cover up so much.
Stardoll's attitude is disgraceful, I don't understand it.

Nowadays people sell Stardoll 'rares' for real money.
I don't do comps just continue the blog. You no longer want to spend money on the site & doing competitions would mean you are still spending money on the site as you're giving people ss membership & stardollars. Spend the money on yourself or your old account. Leave this hacking incident with stardoll let them have it just move on, we'll wait for the next poor hacked victim. I know you feel cheated after spending so much time & money & to think this WILL happen again as long as stardoll is concerned. Stardoll don't know how to treat their customers which is a great shame, it's all about them & hardly about us. They must be thinking as this is a regular occurence & people hardly react therefore you shouldn't react this way but it's your time & money & the 2nd time. From their final letter we all know they don't really care just leave this to hang with them if that's what makes them happy. Don't bother about the law suit it would give more publicity than they need (though I think it would be negative). Lets just wait for the next poor hacked victim. I'm so upset for you. Sigh.

This whole situation is just.. it sucks. I am so sorry about this. Luckily I haven't been hacked on stardoll, but I have been hacked on Habbo and other sites before.. Everytime it happens I decide to leave a site. In this particular case I obviously believe you, and I'm astonished about the way the staff deals with this. You know it's just so easy to just say stuff like 'we do care'. It's not about what they're saying. Because their acts don't measure up.

This is new for them now to say that I used it a month a head of time. I actually did not use a proxy, but the used a link for them to go to my dressing room.

I changed my email for a stupid scam, (I was 11 at the time) and got hacked. I saved up $25 dollars to buy a 6 month card! (Again i was 11 and didn't get paid.) I was freaking pissed! (my parents never found out i was too afraid to tell them)
On my email i never got a confirm change email.
I couldn't find my recipt.
Stardoll was NO HELP. All they did was give me the forgotten password link and i was pissed!
I asked them to change the email on the account and they said they couldn't do it for some sort of issues. and i was pissed again.

Giving you only the half of your stolen clothes and leaving your doll without money! And the stardoll staff don't care because it's not their money spent on that account. She actually had to turn to stardoll members for support as the stardoll staff won't support her (or any of us in future). Stardoll is only friends with you when you spend time or money (non-ss & ss) on them but when things go wrong they treat you like the enemy. Jenna, I'm not suprised you want to give up your account (it's empty!)after the way you've been treated, you must have lost a lot of respect for stardoll itself. There are so many things to do with your spare time if you decide to leave stardoll. I know this is inevitable but I hope no one goes through this again epecially those who spend a lot of money.

I don't understand how can they think that you and your mom are not being honest and that you're lying about not using a proxy. I believe you didn't use proxy in that period and that your account couldn't have been hacked from it. I can't believe how in just 3 and a half years that I've been here Stardoll changed so much, I don't even recgonise it... The worst thing is that you're going to leave because of that, I think you're an amazing person and I hate that this made you make a decision of leaving... This blog is amazing and it won't be the same without you. No matter if the next owner keeps the same writers or has enough money to make many competitions, it just won't be the same... :( But if that's your choice, I respect it and i wish you all the best. :)

ReplyDeleteI definitely think you should hire an attorney. Regardless if you win or not, it will teach Stardoll a lesson. A lesson in equality and fairness to the people who line their pockets. They keep sending you bs emails surrounding their theory of your use of proxies. Well, they have said a lot but they haven't proved anything and you still haven't received your remaining items back.

They had the power to overcome you and take away a passion that you were so clearly devoted to. Unless your real life is just too time consuming and you have no time for Stardoll, or unless your love for the game has dwindled and you find yourself forcing yourself to play, then I would decide to leave.
This is such a tragic experience for you I'm sure and I don't know what to think about the theory that it could have been a member of the Stardoll Staff. How sick is that? If you hired an attorney, they might be able to trace the ip of the person that hacked your account and recover the real user behind this mess. Think about it. That person would be charged with real charges that will affect his or her career for the rest of his/her life. And you'll never know until you dive into these deep waters. So I think your mother has a wonderful idea there. Don't let these jerkoffs get away with this. You have the power to atleast find more information about this incident. You shouldn't stop now. If your lawyer could shine a light on this "hacker" he'll regret he/she ever thought about hacking you.

ReplyDeletesign me up for joining your class action lawsuit!! I got hacked and had my account deleted and stardoll will not reinstate my account because they say I gave my password out. I also buy 10 dollars worth of SD every other week and when I got hacked my paypal account got an attomatic refund of my ten dollars for that week. Stardoll said that was in violation of their terms" and I would never be able to get my account back :(

Honestly, I think suing them is overreacting. They think you got hacked (you may have been, even if it isn't from any proxy or link or whatever, there is a BIG chance you would get hacked because of your status) and Stardoll have always been very clear about that they do not return your items if you get hacked. It's sad that these things happen, but they do and you just have to get over it.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what your going through, i spend almost 500 euro's in one year for my stardoll account,my account got hacked and i did not receive a link to change it back to my email, stardolls moderation and everything us just as bad as themselves, it is just taking money out of little childrens pocket!
