HIGH FASHION OR TOO MUCH?

While we are busy finalizing the results for our latest competitions, I thought I'd quickly post and see what you guys thought about the "dress" Rihanna's wore last night at the CFDA Awards where she was presented  (by Anna Wintour) with the Fashion Icon Award.

The dress was in honor of the style of Josephine Baker who helped paved the way for many African American performers today. Not to mention her role with the Civil Rights Movement

Do you think this was appropriate considering the Style Icon title she seems to carry or do you think this was too risky for even Rhianna. BTW she did at least have a thong on under that boa

it would have been perfect if the dress has sparkles or fake diamonds on strategic places like breasts and stuff. This way is a no to me, i would prefer it in a video, not on red carpet. And she looks weird holding this boa, like she is trying to hide...

Actually i love her gown.. it's perfect. very Art Deco with the faux fur and the head piece... everything it's is art... but please.. if you going to wear this dress at least wear a bra

This article might be interesting, the designer of the dress talks about the look. http://www.style.com/stylefile/2014/06/exclusive-rihanna-mel-ottenberg-adam-selman-cfda/

I'm confused by the fact they called this a 'dress'. And that it is a "fashion statement".
Maybe I'm too old fashioned but that is a fishnet with something on it. These new disagners are being so full of it, damn. I guess there is nothing else to do to shock people, at least not creative, so the new shock will be more-than-half-naked Riri.

Exactly :)

i believe someone said "less is more" and not to put something on with 230 000 swarovski....too many cristals

I've just spotted this and... no comment :D

I don't really care about what is shown (her nudity per se). I just think the dress is hideous. If you want to show off your tits go ahead, but at least wear something flattering. I have nothing against RiRi but I think this dress was a fashion no no.

This is kind of irrelevant but I don't know where to post this, so here goes. This is my first posing scenery and I don't know if I did well, what do you dolls think?

Haha... mine too!

Maybe a little too revealing.

But it was still your 10 year old sisters choice to watch. Most of these awards that are broadcast are rated M for mature (or whatever that equates to in other countries).

I don't get it though. Lady Gaga's worn outfits like this before, and nobody ever proclaims that she's wearing too little. What's the difference between her and Rihanna?

Rosie/Rose_Jean said...

Just a fun fact for everyone, but in the state that these events were held in, she does actually have the right to walk around topless if she so chooses. Actually, there's tons of countries around the world where men and women have that right. It's only western countries that hyper-sexualise the female body who would probably find what she wore to be unusual or inappropriate.

What?

Rosie/Rose_Jean said...

Oh, and countries in the Middle East, I guess. But that's only a few countries anyway.

Honestly, I hate what she's wearing because to me it doesn't look beautiful, attractive or appealing.
If she decided to wear this, fine with me but I wouldn't want my mom to wear this or my sister or anyone close. It's too revealing.
I could state something about feminism over here but I am pretty sure it'd start a huge comment war here.

Your 10 year old sister will end up having the same. And as she hasnt seen it before.... I think kids are so overprotected. As Rosie said, it was her choice... it's nothing bad in nudity....

mirdith said...

whaat? she's not a good singer??
worse singer is katy perry that she even can't sing on live and has more followers than rihanna. If she is where she is, is because of something. Her voice is amazing and different, and that means a lot. When you hear a song you dont know her voice is so recognisable!

I personally like it. Not for me, but yes for her. Celebrities need to wear something that they will be remembered for. This looks is actually nice and despite the showing body is so vintage and great. About the transparency...I admire her confidence so much, and it's her choice. It's not the first time she goes showing everthing. On the Balmain catwalk she wore a fishnet top with nothing underwear. I guess she dont care. And not wearing anything she attracts more glances. The only thing I dont like is the thong, but with the boa is nearly visible. I think underwear would have rested elegancy to the dress and it would have look more tacky.

I don't want to sound rude, but you should work a lot more! The arm that you made her pose with is totally disproportioned. Too long and the angle is weird.

This is just no eew it's way too much. It can't even be classified as "high fashion". If it wasn't transparent, then it could fit in with high fashion maybe, but that's not the case is it? Even if the top half wasn't transparent, it could be high fashion, the legs can be transparent for all I care but seriously, this, this is just no.

don't like the dress personally but then again Josephine Baker was known for wearing hardly anything on stage, so i see how wearing a controversial and revealing dress is seen as a tribute to her.

Lily-Ariana said...

I think its afwul! It has some nice details and the accerssories but the dress just looks bad, a few transparant parts would be good, but this is too much

Lily-Ariana said...

Also, the new Callie's Picks is realesed, it's some kind of 'urban' collection :)

Here you have it

As a woman I hate it. It's kind of insulting to see her objectifying herself in such a way and giving a bad example to her younger fans. I don't see it as high fashion nor as an honor or political statement, it's just Rihanna getting nude again and trying to spread some gossip around.
I wonder how Anna Wintour felt when she handed her the award!

Vale J said...

Haha it's alright, thank you! I did ask for advice, and this was also my first one, I'll work on them a bit more ^.^

Vale J said...

Well, Lady Gaga started out this way, and I would know since I'm a huge fan. Gaga has always worn crazy outfits, meanwhile, Rihanna kind of started not so innocent, but not so "bad girl", do you know what I mean? Now she's gotten a new image and the difference would be that Gaga has always dressed like this, while Rihanna hasn't. :)
